Do I need to visit the center before my surgery?
No. However, we strongly encourage all patients to complete their pre-registration online via One
Medical Passport (link) as soon as your surgery has been schedule so that the nursing staff will be
able to prepare for your procedure.
What if I cannot make my appointment?
Please notify your surgeon and the center as early as possible if you cannot make your scheduled
appointment. Early notification can help us better accommodate you, other patients and your surgeon.
What should I wear day of surgery?
Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes and easy to slip on shoes. Please leave your valuables and
jewelry at home, including body piercings. Do not wear makeup and if you wear contact lenses or
glasses, please bring a case with you.
My preadmission nurse told me to refrain from eating and/or drinking prior to surgery.
Why?
If your preadmission nurse told you to refrain from eating and/or drinking prior to surgery, it is
to prevent the risks stomach contents coming up to your windpipe or lungs during surgery. This
complication can be very serious and you need to strictly abide by the fasting times communicated to
you.
Should I take my usual daily medication?
This is something that needs to be discussed with your preadmission nurse during your preadmission
phone call. Some medications will be stopped for the surgery, particularly diabetes medication and
blood thinners. You should bring these medications with you the day of surgery. Please call us with
any questions you may have.
Who may accompany me on my day of surgery?
You are welcome to bring one (1) person with you to the center. That person will be allowed to be
with you before surgery and may sit with you after the surgery if you so choose. Please refrain from
bringing young children as guests.
Will I be contacted prior to my day of surgery?
Yes. We call each patient before surgery to gather patient and insurance information and to
hopefully answer any of your questions. Preoperative instructions will be provided by the
preadmission nurse who calls you.
What should I do if I believe I am pregnant?
It is very important for us to be aware of this possibility. Only essential surgeries are done on
pregnant patients. If there is any doubt please contact us immediately.
May I speak to my anesthesiologist before surgery?
All patients will be seen by the anesthesiologist on the day of surgery prior to entering the
operating room. Sufficient time should be spent to answer any questions you may have.
May I drive home?
Patients will not be allowed to drive, walk or take public transportation (e.g bus, Uber, Lyft) home
after sedation or anesthesia. We suggest that you have a responsible adult with you for 24 hours
after surgery with anesthesia.
